G-DRAGON: Act III MOTTE London Concert Review

G-Dragon’s Act III: MOTTE London concert was a true and honest ensemble of electrifying performances. The production was strikingly astonishing - every detail of set design, music video screenings, choreography and pyrotechnics contributed to the overall experience.

As lights dimmed, the music for 'Heartbreaker' got louder and the arena lit up with the infamous yellow crown glowsticks. G-dragon was welcomed with an uproar of cheers!

What’s phenomenal is the number of hits G-Dragon has as a solo artist. Everyone in the audience felt an overwhelming sense of nostalgia. Each song marking an iconic era to G-dragon’s lengthy music career. From the dapper red suede suite to him sitting on an elevated white podium with sheer curtains pulled on each side - his presence on stage was felt. G-dragon wooed fans when singing ‘Missing You’ by pointing to faces in the crowd exclaiming “you you, you and you!”

A remarkable video message from his Parents, Sister, YG artists, Juun J, Emmanuel Perrotin, Yoon Ambush, Byoung Young Lee (Manager) and Jung HyungDon (comedian) was shown. Despite his international fame, they describe him as “Smart, mischievous, warm, big hearted, and a Dongsaeng (young brother)... who likes to party”.

The underlying message being: WHO IS KWON JIYONG TO YOU?

Act III: MOTTE London invited us into both of his worlds. Bridging the gap between G-dragon and Kwon Jiyong all whilst reserving aspects of his personality to those truly close to him. Kwon Jiyong let his true colours show, “You guys probably won’t get me” he stated during his quality speech time, allowing us to get a glimpse of his true and current feelings.

As he exited the stage lights dimmed and fans continued to cheer - showtime is over. Or perhaps not! This was not the end. He came back for a mind-blowing encore stage including 'This Love', 'Crooked' and 'Untitled, 2014!’ Meter long confetti streamed down on fans in the standing area, whilst the arena emanated great energy.

The band (drummer, bassist, guitarist and pianist) were then introduced - They have worked with BigBang for over 5 years and are even dubbed as “Big Band” by many fans. The Hi-tech and Crazy Girls dancers were also given a round of applause. Meeting fans in London again after 2 sold out shows back in 2012 with BigBang (Alive Tour). Now with the majority of his fans in their adulthood the support shown for Act III: MOTTE London was incredible.

We came to see G-dragon but left seeing Kwon Jiyong embodying the stage in it’s grand yet humble entirety.
