Who or what inspires you to pursue music?
As a kid I wanted to become a professional football (soccer) player and I was well on my way to becoming one with scouts reaching out to me towards the end of my young career. But deep inside I've always loved fishing and music. I recorded my first studio record when I was 9 and was heavily influenced by my two older brothers, particularly Sanchez who is still pursuing music in Korea as a solo vocalist/rapper.
As we all know, I debuted in 2005 as 1/2 of the members of All Black with Dok2. I did that for a while and then came back to New Zealand to finish my education.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve had as being young in this industry?
Nothing, nothing as challenging, but as sweet as a young person put on this big world to pursue his or her passion! I feel truly blessed that I can soak up all the knowledge and experience as I walk in this journey. I'm independent and I love it but as much as I do love it, it's that much more challenging. But being young gives me space to make mistakes which I dont often make. However age is just a number.
What inspires you to create your own path?
My inspiration comes from my past when I was back in New Zealand performing in front of 3 people or my family members at shows that payed me just enough to cover my gas money lol. I did an endless amount of these gigs and just my personal struggles which we all have. These experiences all happened for a reason and now I'm grateful for those times. Also, just imagining that one day as well as now I can give back to those who were struggling like me back in the day just excites me. Plus I love creating music- I was destined for this!
Can you share any inspiring words to young creatives like you?
Education first. Knowledge is the key. Don't be impatient, everyone will have their timing for their big shot in whichever industry- but you've got to be ready, so work hard! Ask God or seek guidance. Don't give up, good things don't come easy and good things can come unexpectedly!
How old were you when you knew this is what you wanted to do?
I didn't have an exact encounter of 'damn this is my path'. It was more like I lived my life and worked hard on music as well as just life, such as working three part time jobs to build a piece of s*** wooden booth which I recorded my 'Microtape' EP in haha, and just so I could shoot a 100$ budget which was homage and for the road to riches back in the day. However God's plan just came at a certain point and I was blessed enough to just fall into that without hesitation.
How did you get to where you are today?
I worked my ass off but enjoyed it, education was just a guideline of how life should be at that age and though I was ambitious to keep wanting more in certain areas I always knew I needed education. My parents went through hell for us, we were broken and we would struggle as a family and just in daily life. This I believe could've been due to lack of education (but the previous generation was alot different to now). Knowledge shouldn't be demanded to get on top or to pass someone in life. You should want education so you can excel your life and share that.
How would you describe your style?
My fashion or rap or life? I don't have a style. I'm all round, like with fashion I'm topless alot of the time and with my music I don't follow trends but I follow my heart which you guys will hear through my first album dropping late 2017 with 25 tracks, called 'Prophet'. My lifestyle is to enjoy every moment and not to regret a single moment or choice.
What sets you apart from others/ makes you unique?
I'm me. I'm different and that should be felt through what you see and feel from me.
What’s the most memorable thing that’s happened to you in your career?
Besides meeting Snoop on SMTM4 and receiving mad props. It's probably... being able to live a life thats just like my dreams I used to have growing up. Just wait for my album and my Show Me the Money 6 appearances!
